Community Speed Watch update

You may have heard on the news that Lincolnshire Police are launching a program for members of the public to use hand held radars in their parishes.

I should first mention that a date has not been confirmed for its roll out but it is expected to be February/ March next year. This will allow time for staff to be recruited to deliver the program. In brief though, LRSP is adding another layer to our Community Speed watch initiative. Inspector Phil Baker and myself presented this at a Road safety summit in Grantham on the 3rd November. CSW has been in existence in its present form since 2014.

As you know it gives parishes the ability to display 30 mph or 40 mph passive notices and, also, to purchase a vehicle activated sign. Parishes may also purchase wheelie bin stickers to remind drivers of the speed limit. Most of you will be aware that other police force parishes make use of a reactive sign on a tripod or hand held radar to detect drivers exceeding the speed limit. Lincolnshire will be doing the same.
