The meeting on Tuesday 20th Feb at Roughton Parish Hall welcomed a new Chair, Carmita Booth, and a few changes were put to members:
1. Seating arrangements: Chairs to face to narrow side wall with a centre aisle, hopefully to give speakers a more manageable audience and the hard of hearing able to be closer to the speaker at the front.
2. Earlier start time from 8.00pm to 7.30pm to make the finish time earlier.
3. Spreading the word to get more members, particularly men to be encouraged to attend! We have a diversity of speakers with interesting topics e.g. last year we had an author from Louth, a criminal lawyer from Sheffield and a talk about Chatsworth House. Continue reading →
Kirkby on Bain CAMEO Club enjoyed an outing to Anwick Garden Centre last month. Many thanks to the staff there who showed us around the centre and then kindly answered many questions and queries over tea and biscuits, the perfect way to garden!! A very enjoyable evening.
We celebrated our 25th Anniversary at the beginning of this month with an afternoon tea party in the gardens of one of our members, Maureen Jordan. We were so lucky to have a beautiful day and were able to sit in the garden and appreciate an English summer afternoon. Our group reformed in 1992 after some years of not meeting. We were fortunate to have some of the original members from 1992 attend, many of whom are still active in the group. Chairperson, Sue Wright gave a short speech looking back over the years, the group have had many exciting trips and speakers and have donated over £5,500 to various charities over the 25 years. Many thanks to Maureen and her husband Keith for all of their work and also to Sue Kind who provided an amazing afternoon tea.
We next meet on Tuesday 18th July at 8pm in Roughton Village Hall. Our speaker will be telling us of Chatsworth, past and present. Visitors and new members are very welcome – please either just come along or call me for more details.
