The Parish Council launched its latest competition at the recent Annual Parish Meeting. The idea was to name the footpath that runs from Main Street to Wharf Lane, just opposite the school. We now have now twelve entries, so all residents can vote for the winner. Please vote for one name only, using the voting papers in the book exchange / phone box, and leave your paper in the box provided, by August 31. Here’s the list, in no particular order:
This weekend councillors distributed leaflets around the parish, providing information about this year’s Annual Parish Meeting, forthcoming local events and a welcome letter for newcomers listing clubs, footpaths for walkers, holiday accommodation, a village map and other useful contact details. If you have not received the information pack and you would like one please get in touch here or contact a councillor.
In response to a question at this year’s Annual Parish Meeting, champion motorcyclist Steve Plater agreed in public that the state of our local roads was a disgrace and potentially a matter of life and death. “Don’t get me started” he said, but encouraged by the positive reaction in the primary school hall, he did just that, criticising Lincolnshire County Council Highways Department’s apparent indifference.
This year’s meeting had got off to a heart-warming start at the Primary School Hall, as a small but excited group of younger children sang songs that many will remember with affection from their own schooldays. Most of the audience joined in, before taking part in a new venture – the village bake-off, scoffing delicious tray bakes and marking them out of ten. The outright winner was Jill Hilton and there was no shortage of scrummy leftovers taken home after the meeting. Continue reading →
Last year the Kirkby on Bain Annual Parish Meeting attracted a record number of local people and invited guests, filling the primary school hall in Wharf Lane almost to capacity. Martin, Penny and I have been busy since then planning this year’s event, now called the annual village meeting, scheduled for May 18th, starting at 6.30 pm.
Once again children from the primary school will be top of the bill and they are working right now on their opening routine. The details are a secret of course but I have an idea that music might be involved.
Other highlights will include a bake-off, a local photographic display, an open forum, refreshments and guest presentations, including a keynoteaddress by international motorcycling champion and local hero Steve Plater.
Let’s fill that hall once again! Download full details
If you came to our Annual Village Meeting earlier this year may remember the compilation of film clips I showed, representing some of Betty Dixon’s memories of her life in Kirkby on Bain. The film featured old photos and Betty’s own commentary:
Plans are now being drawn up for next year’s meeting, so if you have any ideas for us, now’s the time to tell us. Continue reading →
