Just because it’s March, there’s no excuse for not going out to enjoy our Lincolnshire countryside, and there are some really enjoyable walks not far from Kirkby on Bain. How about walking the Woodhall Spa Trail to Horncastle?
This trail features in the iFootpath Walking Guide online series where you will find a mine of information for each section of this walk. The succinct introduction talks of: “A 7 mile ‘there and back’ walk along the mid section of the old Horncastle-to-Woodhall Junction railway line in Lincolnshire, known as the Spa Trail.
The trail, part of the Viking Way long distance path, passes through a mix of woodland and open countryside. Along the way you will discover impressive sculptures made from wood, stone and metal, all reflecting local wildlife and links with the past.”
The iFootpath web page also has a photo gallery and a couple of comments, one of which sums the walk up well: “Done this walk many times with the ramblers and ourselves. Never tire of – it’s a lovely winter walk even without your walking boots on. Well worth a visit and with pubs & tea shops either end you cannot fail to enjoy.”
