Cameo club update: Petwood, the early years

From Bessie Major:

CAMEO Club – Kirkby on Bain

On 21st February Dr and Mrs Duke-Cox gave us a most delightful talk and presentation on ‘The Petwood Hotel’ which took us back to before the Second World War – the very early stages, when it was built as a very large bungalow for Sir John Blundell Maples’ daughter, Grace.

The slides showed us the bungalow as it was and explained how it was sold to be a hotel. We were taken on the journey from the early stages of building and then made even larger to be the Petwood Hotel. The talk also gave us a brief history of the family. We are most grateful for Dr and Mrs Duke-Cox’s time and presentation and hope they will return next year to continue the story.

Dr Nicholas Duke-Cox has recently completed his book covering the history of the family and the house and gardens. We look forward to its publication.
